The enterprise emerged from the GIS Working Group of Prof. Dr. K. Greve at the Department of Geography of Bonn University. This working group was involved in projects about the management and use of distributed geospatial data since 1997.

lat/lon offers innovative products and services in the sector of spatial and internet-based information systems.

Beside its membership in the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) as Associated Member, lat/lon is involved in the Initiative Spatial Data Infrastructure of North-Rhine Westfalia (GDI-NRW) with different topics. The mission of GDI-NRW is to establish a unified and interoperable infrastruture for the administration and exchange of spatial data within NRW.
